The worst mmos

What are some of the worst mmo's that you've ever played?

For me it has to be Dungeons and Dragons Online. It has outdated graphics, the interface is not intuitive and the missions are boring.

All of them. MMO is a bland and boring creation within gaming.

My Dear Melancholy,

I love every mmo. None of them deserves to be called bad. They're interesting. But aren't most MMOs the same?

Character creation
Basic plot
Quest for level up
Max out your character
Repeat

I usually do as well but this Dungeons and Dragons one was just Neverwinter Nights without the story or characters.

Oh yeah. The remake isn't all that great either but the first version was pretty unplayable.

I bothered beyond level 5 for the remake, which says a lot for it compared to the original.

My thoughts exactly.

I don't see what's so exciting about endless grinding to ultimately press a few buttons to attack takes no real skill or effort it's just time consuming eith no real payoff.

Plus they never really have that engaging a story since all you get is a main quest with tid bits of information and like a million other unrelated quests collecting random s***, hunting specific enemies all to get half decent weapons.
And it's a cycle that just never stops until you get to max level and can't get any better.

Not to mention there's never any exploration value at all like with Skyrim you could explore this fairly big landscape and uncover tons of epic things but TESO just missions and bland areas.

The only thing that could qualify as an MMO that I enjoy is DayZ but no matter how good it is when it's done the community will always be a*****. It's at least a relatively challenging skill based experience though.

My Dear Melancholy,

Steve what's your opinions on Wizard 101 and DC Online? Their plots connect with the side stories and everything you do is done for a reason. Sure there is some quest that's pointless but the majority aren't. Though I haven't played Wizard at all(YouTube gameplay) and only level 29 on DCO

Everything you stated MMO's don't have are entirely the reason why I love Star Wars the Old Republic, it has all of that. It has vast planets full of easter eggs, extra stuff to do (there's a process that isn't even a quest you can go through that requires different things on about 4 different planets to make a unique lightsaber crystal, even involving a raid boss as the final step.) There's loads of special locations, like the destroyed jedi temple on Coruscant, Lord Grathan's estate on Dromund Kaas, the game is massive, probably actually bigger than Skyrim, and has lots of types of collectibles, rare items you can only find by venturing out of the quest lines, entire dungeons and raid areas that have no quests tied to them, then every quest has a specific storyline tied to it, specifically quests called "Heroics" which are group-based quests with multiple stages and a story to match, and they almost always elaborate more on the lore of whichever planet you are on and the people or creatures on it.

Then the story mode. There are 8 different and unique storylines, each with varying levels of quality, granted, but they are still very long (they last the entire base-game levelling cap) for each class, and the game has been praised for it's storytelling, which encourages solo play as well as team play simply because the story of most of the classes is so gripping.

For example, the Trooper is like an action movie, not highly complex but adrenaline based, while the both jedi classes have stories that feel like they could be entire movie trilogies of their own, and the Imperial Agent has a complex storyline of twists that is constantly progressing.

Then it has more than enough group stuff for those who want it, the game has Flashpoints, which are basically like story based raids for 2-4 people, some don't even have final bosses but always have good gear, then there are Operations, which can be 8-16 player events, and though they are a little less plot-driven have insanely difficult bosses and enemy mobs, and drop great gear (which, I might add, has a very fair system of distribution among the party members.)

Then there's the PvP warzones with simple games like Deathmatch or King of the Hill to what is basically a homage to Halo's Grifball, the space missions, the player strongholds you can customize to your liking, and much more.

And all of this is free, surprisingly, in one game, and most of the paid services or subscription based stuff is basically just extra, it doesn't take away from the main experience at all. The grinding isn't so bad either because the side quests are actually normally decent and provide good EXP, and the flashpoints and heroics can be repeated and they are fun and challenging in their respective level ranges, grinding doesn't even actually take that long.

As you can probably tell, I'm a very big fan of the game, and I admit I do love it, can't wait to get a decent computer to start playing again.

EDIT: DC universe is also a very good MMO for what you are looking for, though the game is a bit off at times and there are no real specific classes to progress through, you just pick a weapon and a power after making your character and then unlock things related to those weapons and that power, there are no specific classes, everything has different options like DPS and healing.

Never played them only bother with MMO's if they look exceptional to me, most are just the same thing.

Some are half decent but most of the time to me it just feels like I'm playing the same game with a different skin so I don't feel like it's worth it just to be the same weak level 1 MMO character and get called noob by everyone.
Like wow I'm at level one and you called me a noob what observation skills you have

At least with an FPS if some 10 year old is trash talking you, you can beat them with skill but that same 10 year old in an MMO who's sunk like 50+ hours in to the game will be unbeatable for a good while because you literally can't win with an underleveled character.

So they only interest me if they reward skill and don't just have stereotypical fantasy or sci-fi designs.

Once again, you should check out Star Wars: The Old Republic, besides that gigantic post I left detailing it, it's also got a very friendly community. People help you out if you ask for it and you can even find max-level people on starter planets that will team up with you to do a quest or help you kill the world boss or whatever. People in the game are helpful in other ways too, if you ask for advice or how to do something they always answer, you never hear "lol, noob" in reply unless it's something really obvious like how do I equip my new weapon or something.

I'd suggest you try it out if you ever feel like it.

I thought FFXIV actually had a really decent story once I got to about level ten. Really awesome cutscenes and even some voice acting. Looked great too. It was just a little bit too tedious too often and made me walk too much between quests.

That's normally what puts me off of MMO's (and why I love SWTOR so much, you don't actually have to travel that much if you don't want to and you can avoid the majority of mobs if you want to get somewhere quick without being attacked, and when you do have to travel, there is sprint and mounts which make it much faster, as well as teleportation in some cases.)

I love the story in SWTOR though, and it's great that there are a variety of 8 to choose from, and even better that they are all so unique. I also like how they all tie together, events from one (like the defeat of the final boss of the Jedi knight storyline) tie in to another (the defeat of said boss being relevant for the last third of the Sith Warrior storyline) and expands on the lore.

Sounds like a one of a kind community then :p

Looking at gameplay it does look cool but it's not the sort of game I'm looking for right now.

Wish I'd played that instead of Guild Wars 2...
Which wasn't that terrible actually but nothing amazing, great for a one time only fee anyway.

I just don't like playing with all these people and not really being involved with them, besides occasional events or quests that require multiple people.
So DayZ I like because you have complete freedom and everyone is fighting against each other to survive not just wandering between quest areas you have to consider what everyone is doing or you'll get killed.
I think they can have 60 people in it now so I'd say it qualifies as an MMO, since it's not some kind of matchmaking FPS like Battlefield 4 with 64 players.
